An unforgettable way to begin your break is to take a sunset cruise from the hotel’s docks around Lake Maggiore, with its panorama of the Borromee Islands surrounded by the majestic Alps. Privately owned by the Borromeo family, the islands are worth a visit, particularly Isola Bella with its castle and botanical gardens.

Nearby Lake Orta has a charming atmosphere and boasts its own island, which is inhabited by nuns only. Explore the three-aisle church and sample the St Giulio bread baked by the nuns. Villa Taranto, just 20 minutes from the hotel, is home to one of the best botanical gardens in the world, which are open to the public.
