Things to do in Vienna
Vienna has a colourful and rich cultural history with music playing a major part in that history. The famous composers of the past who originated in Vienna include some of the most distinguished in the world: Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and Johan Strauss to name a few. The magnificent Opera house is internationally renowned as are the Vienna Boys’ choir and Wiener Philharmoniker. There are lovely Grand Palaces to visit along with art collections and museums. The Lipizzaner horses are trained here and performances can be seen at the Vienna Hofburg, Imperial Palace. Vienna offers fabulous shopping opportunities with the Naschmarkt and adjacent “flea market” where all sorts of treasures can be found. From the middle of November Vienna’s traditional Christmas markets, Christkindlmarkt and Spittelberg are open and wonderful smells of ginger bread and gluvine fill the air, really bringing on that festive feeling. The trendy shops can be found around Mariahilfer Strasse. For sustenance on a busy day’s sightseeing or shopping there are plenty of traditional Viennese coffee shops serving delectable pastries and creamy coffee or wine taverns “Heurige” for something stronger.
Getting to Le Meridien Vienna
Vienna International airport (VIE) is 20km away, 30 minutes by car. There is also the CAT train from the airport to the City Terminal located very close to the hotel and a shuttle bus service. Public transport services are very good in Vienna.
